The Personal Assistance Services Council (PASC) provides a variety of training opportunities for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) consumers and providers in Los Angeles County. All trainings provided by PASC are free and voluntary. State law does not require IHSS consumers or providers to undergo any training before entering the IHSS system.
PASC’s Consumer-Directed Seminars help IHSS consumers learn how to better manage their care and navigate the IHSS system. These seminars are typically led by facilitators who are themselves IHSS consumers, and who have experience dealing with IHSS-related issues.

Directing Your Medical Care - Learn how to prepare for doctor visits, how to get the results you want, and how to work with your doctor to complete required IHSS forms.
How to Make the Best of Your IHSS Experience - Learn strategies and tips on saving time and money as an IHSS consumer.
Getting the IHSS Hours You Need - Learn how IHSS hours are determined, get tips on how to prepare for an IHSS assessment, and information on the IHSS appeals process.
PASC’s Healthy Lifestyle Seminars provide consumers, homecare workers, and other interested individuals with information on a variety of health-related topics. PASC partners with healthcare organizations and professionals to provide these seminars.
Diabetes Management 101 - A basic overview of what diabetes is, what the numbers mean, how to plan a menu and make wise food choices, and how to read labels at the grocery store.
Diabetes Management Series – This four-part series includes information on 1) diabetes basics, 2) the importance of dental care, diet, and exercise, 3) balancing your diet, carbohydrate counting, and meal planning, and 4) portion control, cooking tips, and helpful recipes.
Weight Management Series – This four-part series includes information on 1) how keeping your weight under control can help prevent diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure, 2) how to recognize and interpret your body's signals, 3) bargain shopping, planning ahead, and how to have a healthy diet on a budget, and 4) how to set realistic goals, identify what can sabotage your plans, and decide on non-food rewards.
Balance and Fall Prevention - Learn tips and techniques to prevent falls while maintaining your mobility.
De-Cluttering Your Home - Learn the difference between clutter and hoarding, how to de-clutter your home, and how to help someone who is a hoarder.
PASC’s Provider Seminars give homecare workers tips and techniques for caring for thier consumers, and caring for themselves. PASC partners with healthcare organizations and professionals to provide these seminars.
How to Safely Assist Consumers with Lifting and Transferring - Learn how to lift or transfer a person who cannot move him/herself from a wheelchair or bed using a Hoyer lift or sliding board.
Universal Precautions - Learn how to protect yourself and your consumer from contagious diseases including colds, flu, Hepatitis B and HIV.
PASC Back-Up Program Training - Participants learn how to provide medically-related services and practice hands-on in a group setting. This 12-hour training is specifically for homecare workers who are interested in working with the PASC Back-Up Program.
