SB 998 (Liu) – Long-Term Care: Assessment and Planning

This bill would require hospitals and other care facilities to provide patients who will need post-facility care with written and oral information on options for care at the earliest possible opportunity. This bill would also require the State Department of Health Care Services to develop a uniform assessment tool to assist consumers in finding the long-term care services of their choice. In addition, counties would be required to establish a long-term care case management program and provide services for specified individuals to enable them to live in their communities.

Status: This bill was passed by Senate Committee on Health on April 19, 2010. However, it did not pass out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee before the May 28, 2010 deadline. No further action will be taken on SB 998 unless special permission is granted, or it is amended so that it would not impact state spending.
