AB 682 (Lowenthal) – IHSS Background Checks

Recent legislation made it mandatory for all IHSS providers to clear a criminal background check and specified that the checks be conducted at the provider’s expense.  This bill would give IHSS nonprofit consortiums or public authorities the option of paying for the criminal background checks for IHSS providers. It would also require the state to seek federal financial participation to cover costs associated with conducting the criminal background check. 

Status: This bill was passed by the Assembly on June 3, 2009, but was amended on September 3, 2009, and his currently being heard by the Senate Appropriations Committee.
