AB 1970 (Fong) – IHSS Providers: Emergency Services Act

This bill would authorize a county department of social services, upon the request of an emergency shelter operator during a state or federally declared state of emergency, to assess the shelter’s needs and, if necessary, direct the IHSS public authority to contact providers available to assist seniors and persons with disabilities at the shelter site. In addition, this bill would protect IHSS providers who provide such assistance from certain liability issues that could arise.

Status: This bill was amended, passed by the Assembly Human Services Committee on April 13, 2010. However, it did not pass out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee before the May 28, 2010 deadline. No further action will be taken on AB 1970 unless special permission is granted, or it is amended so that it would not impact state spending.
